The Most Played RPG of 2011

It’s hard to recall any other RPG played this year other than the dragon-filled realm of Skyrim. That shouldn’t be surprising as it has amassed more than 2x as many total playtime hours as all of its closest competitors combined!

WINNER:  The Elder Scrolls V:  Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V:  Skyrim takes place 200 years after its predecessor, Oblivion, at the heart of a civil war after the murder of the High King. The story, dense with never-ending side quests and stunning landscapes, is also jammed packed with dungeons, demons, and dragons, lots and lots of dragons. Are you Dragonborn? Will you set right what others have set to destroy?

Unsurprisingly, Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim dominated RPGs with 6x more total playtime than the closest competitor. After Skyrim’s release, players practically picked up a part-time job, playing 23 hours during the opening week.

Dragon Age 2 and Two Worlds 2 trailed only slightly behind in session length by 6 minutes – hinting at a strong ability to keep users engaged.

Now arm yourself, it’s dangerous out there, and save the world of Tamriel.
